Terrorism in guise of liberation

It was exactly 3 years ago when the Security Forces liberated the country from the clutches of LTTE terrror
Untill then, lives of all Sri lankans were in danger, without knowing when the merciless Tigor terrorists would explode the next bomb, targetting civillians. Thanks to the supreme sacrifices of the Security Forces and fearless political leadership of President Mahinda Rajapakse, all Sri lankans, irrespective of race and religion, are now enjoying the dividends of peace.
However, it's still fresh in our memories how the LTTE inflicted nothing but misery when they unleashed terrorism in the guise of liberation. Here are a few of the many LTTE atrocites to prove that they were the world's most ruthless terrorist outfit untill May 18, 2009. 

  • November 30, 1984 : Armed terrorists shot dead 49 Sinhalese settlers and injured several others at Kent Farm, Vauniya.
  • May 14, 1985 :Armed terrorists attacked Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura and shot 150 civillians, mostly devotees
  • April 21, 1987 : The terrorists' bomb explotion at the Central Bus Stand in Pettah killed over 110 civillians and injured 298 people.
  • April 17, 1987 : Armed terrorists shot dead 127 Sinhalese who were travelling in buses to Trincomalee from Habarana.
  • June 2, 1987 : Armed terrorists shot dead 30 bikkhus and 4 Sinhalese civillians and injured 15 bhikkhus at Aranthalawa.

  • August 3, 1990 : Terrorists opened fire at Muslims who were praying in 2 Mosques in Kanthankudy, killing 103 and wounding 70.
  • August 11, 1990: LTTE terrorists attacked Div. 3 & 6 villages in Eravur, killing 116 Muslims and injuring 20 others.

  • January 31,1996 : LTTE attacked the Central Bank, killing over 90 people and injuring 1338 people.
  • November 17, 1997 : Colombo's Kelanitissa Power plant was attacked by suicide bombers.

  • July 24, 2001 : A group of 20 suicide cadres in military uniforms attacked the Katunayake Bandaranayke International Air Port and Katunayake Air Force Base and did a severe damage to several Aircrafts and other property.
  • August 12, 2005 : LTTE terrorists assasinated Foreign Minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar at his official recidence in Colombo.
  • April 25, 2006 : Army Commander Lt.General Sarath Fonseka was critically injured when a female suicide cadre of the LTTE, disguised as a pregnant woman.
  • April 6, 2008 : Minister of Hoghways and Cheif government whip Jeyraj Fernandopulle and 13 otheres were killed in an LTTE suicide atttack.
  • March 10, 2009 : 14 people were killed and 46 others including Posts and Telecommunications minister, Mahinda Wijesekara were wounded when a suspected LTTE suicide bomber blew himself up targettin a procession celebrating an Islam festival.
